We've admired the classical guitar compositions, performances, and recordings of Jens Felger for a long time. He composed this hip-hop inflected piece for a film, and posted it on SoundCloud as an open collab. Marty wrote the lyrics, mostly in a spontaneous improv.
lyrics
I could never be your teacher,
I’m not wearing hearts or patches on my sleeve.
But I believe in learning,
and I’m yearning for a new start.
I catch myself daydreaming,
just scheming how to reach you.
No, I can’t be your sugar-daddy
or a trash talking super-baddy,
I’m no gambler, nor ramble-round-joe,
I like to take it slow, and think before I go.
Well I know,
you might find that dull,
but in the lull,
in a perfect moment there…
make a connection,
feel the convection,
the heat,
the beat
on a rain-slick street.
I’m no kind of hero,
jukebox, tragic-comic,
soap-box, mega-manic,
all I’ve got’s right here
so put down your phone,
let me say it clear…
I am your man.
